UPDATE: Minnesota AAU’s Official Statement on Opening Up AAU Youth Athletic Competition in Minnesota
First and foremost we sincerely hope all Minnesota athletes, coaches, club directors, parents, many volunteers, and valuable spectators are safe and healthy during this serious and tragic pandemic. The safety and health of Minnesota AAU’s participants will remain Minnesota AAU’s primary goal.
Minnesota AAU will not authorize any participation in AAU athletics until the State of Minnesota and National AAU gives the go ahead to do so. Minnesota AAU members will follow the guidelines on participation as outlined by the State’s orders without exception.
Our club directors and event operators are busy planning and adjusting to the orders of the State in order to eventually provide some version of competition and playing opportunity for our athletes. They are highly motivated to provide opportunities for our athletes and you may hear about their plans periodically. They also watch closely the actions and plans of the National AAU, NCAA, high school league, professional level sports to stay in tune with national plans to open competition for youth athletics. In addition, Minnesota AAU and our event operators are in constant contact with members of the Governor’s task force on opening up youth athletics in Minnesota.
Please stay safe - be careful - and remain healthy.

Minnesota AAU Girls Basketball is proud to offer a state championship tournament format that protects teams from unbalanced competition and determines which teams will play in the Division I or Division II & III Championship brackets. Our two weekend event provides Super Pool play competition the 1st weekend in May that will place teams in Div I or II brackets for championship play the 3rd weekend in May. Our Prelim Tournament places the top 6-8 seeded teams into 2 Super Pools, A & B. Pools C through G are seeded traditionally beginning with the 9th seed being the top team in Pool C. The top 1 or 2 teams in Pools C through G earn spots in the Division I Championship bracket. The remaining teams are placed in the Division II or III Championship bracket according to their finish in Prelim pool play. This format protects weaker teams from the powerhouse teams while still providing all teams an opportunity to make it into the Div I Championship bracket. However, if your team does not qualify for the Division I bracket, your team still has earned the opportunity to be an AAU Champion, playing in the Division II or III championship bracket. In 2019 we will have Division 3 Champions in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. The AAU State Tournament had outstanding competition and those in attendance got to see the best girls basketball players/teams Minnesota has to offer. See you in the gym.
